As a counterpoint to the numerous events celebrating Lavoisier's Bicentennial in May 1994, the European Science Foundation Program "Evolution of Chemnistry, 1789-1939" organized a workshop whose purpose was not commemorative but rather historiographic. A significant feature of the workshop was the unique opportunity it offered to a dozen active Lavoisier scholars from various countries to meet and discuss the recent developments in the historiography of the chemical revolution. The national surveys of this workshop as well as a specially prepared bibliography of the Méthode de nomenclature chimique and of the Traité élémentaire de chimie and their European translations are included in this publication.
