As a counterpoint to the numerous events celebrating Lavoisier's Bicentennial in May 1994, the European Science Foundation Program "Evolution of Chemnistry, 1789-1939" organized a workshop whose purpose was not commemorative but rather historiographic. A significant feature of the workshop was the unique opportunity it offered to a dozen active Lavoisier scholars from various countries to meet and discuss the recent developments in the historiography of the chemical revolution. The national surveys of this workshop as well as a specially prepared bibliography of the Méthode de nomenclature chimique and of the Traité élémentaire de chimie and their European translations are included in this publication.   European Studies in Science History and the Arts I
